Weekend Fly is an innovative web application designed for general aviation pilots seeking inspiration for their flying adventures. Our platform gives purpose to your flights by suggesting interesting events and must-see destinations, all validated by fellow pilots in the community.
We only recommend destinations with a high probability of favorable weather, saving you time and ensuring a memorable experience.
With Weekend Fly, you can discover new horizons and enjoy Europe's often little-known treasures.
The idea for Weekend Fly originated from the experience of Alex, a French microlight pilot based near Luxembourg. In 2021, after seeing several of his aerial escapades canceled due to last-minute unexpected weather changes, he realized there was a need for a tool that would allow him to reschedule rapidly a new destination without iterating on weather, hotels, transportations, and attractions across multiple websites.
It was during a coding Bootcamp in Bali that the initial project took shape, joined later by Rachel with enthusiasm, a PPL from Luxembourg. Together, they continuously develop this platform to bring added value to general aviation explorers.
Weekend Fly is a Web Application working on PC, Tablet and Smartphone, has been released in June 2024 currently in beta version.
Weekend Fly is not a flight planning or navigation application. There are plenty of high-quality options for those. It is neither a tool for specialized aeronautical weather. Moreover, we remind it is the responsibility of each pilot to prepare their navigation according to aviation rules.
Weekend Fly stands out by helping you determine your destination based on:
Each pilot can create a personal account and profile, displaying their visited aerodromes, licenses, and other relevant information helping us provide tailor-made trip suggestions.
Define your weather risk aversion, cruising speed, and preferences for fuel cards, minimum runway length. These settings will allow the algorithm to suggest suitable destinations.
Based on your expectations for the destination, and on the weather algorithm generated "flyzone" (flight zone with favorable weather forecasts), we'll suggest you tailored destinations.
The Flyzone defines all the destinations you can reach with a good weather probability (based on weather forecasts from openweathermap.org) for outgoing and incoming flights.
View fuel stations by type of fuel (100LL by default), referenced aerodromes, events, and more on an intuitive interactive map.
Access detailed information about each airport, including VAC charts when available, weather forecasts, aeronautical museums, events, and local amenities near aerodromes. You have the option to add a fuel station if it is not listed in our database and additional information that benefits the entire community.
View, create, and modify aeronautical events in Europe. Destinations with ongoing events will have priority in our destination suggestions. Every registered user is free to share an event with the community!
Pilots can share ratings and reviews about visited aerodromes, providing valuable information to the entire pilot community.
Your feedback is valuable. Whether it's sharing ideas for improvement, reporting bugs, or providing useful information, your contributions are invaluable. These improvements will be continuously integrated into Weekend Fly, making our platform even more comprehensive and useful for our pilot community.
